Last night, a man was shot and killed in Shreveport. As with any major crime, the media was all over the place trying to get video and information. This includes interviews with neighbors and investigators.

The SPD spokesperson was in the process of giving us a statement about a vehicle seen leaving the area shortly after the shooting, when his phone started ringing. It was a really loud ring and was interfering with his statements.

I simply asked him if he could answer it or turn it off and then finish his statement because important information does no good to the viewers at home if they can’t hear what’s being said.

Apparently my request irritated someone because the next thing I heard was someone rudely muttering something like “it’s all about you, Redford.”

Actually it’s not all about me. It’s about our viewers. How can we ask them to be on the lookout for a vehicle if they can’t understand what type of vehicle it is? I’m sure everyone in TV and Radio knows what I’m talking about.

I should brush this insult off, but I can’t. Nothing bugs me more (besides a loud ring during an interview) than a hater.

Can’t we all just get along?

I just joined a group of Facebook.com called “Making Drug Tests Required To Get Welfare.” Check out my FB page if you want to see the link.

What struck me as very sad the second i started reading some of the comments is how people immediately turned this into a racial issue. That’s the last thing I thought when i joined the group. I just thought it was a worthwhile group to join.

After reading some of the crap, I decided to add my two cents. Here’s what I wrote: “Drugs know no color… why is everything about race? Hell, I don’t care about a junkie’s race, but I do care about my hard earned money paying for someone’s crack. Got an addiction? Get a job!!!”

Sorry if that offends, but that’s how I feel. I’m sick and tired of everyone blaming everything on race… We all belong to one race… the human race. Why can’t we all just accept that?

I’m proud to say I started the new year off as a non-smoker!!! In fact, as of January 8th… it’ll be seven months since I had a cigarette. That’s a pretty damn good start if I do say so myself.

I have a lot planned for 2010. I’m going to get out of debt if it kills me. I owe so many people, I don’t even know where to start. I’m going to do everything within my power to pay off a very dear friend who put a lot of faith and trust in me a few years ago. He knows who he is and I miss him terribly.

I still owe on some past surgeries, but have managed to see the quadruple digits turn into triple… soon I’ll have them PAID IN FULL!!! Just in time for a possible double hernia surgery… UGH!!!

This new year is going to be a good one, I can just feel it! I think the economy will slowly but surely start to recover and people will get back to work. God will see us through…. we have to believe.

Here’s to a happy and prosperous 2010!!!!

Someone put a can of De-Icer on my desk the other day. I have no idea who did it and why, but I laugh to myself every time I see it.

I haven’t needed to de-ice a thing since I’ve lived in Louisiana… and I LOVE IT!!! I guess I’ve lived in the South for too long.

I’m getting ready to go to Missouri next week and I’m dreading the weather.

Every Christmas, I literally freeze my jingle balls off at my dad’s house. I’m convinced my dad thinks he’s sticking it to the power company by not using his heat. The house is like an igloo!

He’s supposed to have some new kind of propane heater installed on his wall. All I can say is I hope it’s warm.

Speaking of the cold… my sister just sent me a text message letting me know we’d be having chili for Christmas lunch. Chili???? Are you kidding me???

You all know the one thing I can’t stand is lettuce.. well guess what the other thing is… yup, chili! It’s disgusting. Never liked it… never will.

Thank goodness we Redford’s eat a huge Christmas breakfast because that may be the only meal I eat. LOL.

I’m just half kidding… when it comes to my family… I’d eat a vat of chili while sitting on an ice cube just to spend a few seconds with them. I have the best family in the world and I can’t wait to see them.

Merry Christmas everyone!!

Voters in Houston, TX have spoken and they’ve let it be known they don’t care who their new Mayor sleeps with… just as long as she doesn’t sleep on the job.

Houston is the first major city to elect an openly gay Mayor.

Kind of ironic considering the election falls on the heels of the controversial remarks made by Shreveport city councilman Ron Webb regarding the Robinson Film Center.

In a video-recorded budget meeting, Webb told fellow council members he didn’t want to give the non-profit center 25-thousand dollars because it bothers him they support gay and lesbian rights.

I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t aware gays and lesbians didn’t have rights.. except the right to get married.

Rumor has it… Ron Webb isn’t out of the water yet. His remarks have apparently pissed off the film industry… and we all know how important that industry is to the city.

What do you think?

Instead… Trish, Thomas and I ate at a buffet here in Shreveport. I wouldn’t call it a traditional dinner by any means. When we arrived, there was a big sign on the door which read “OUT OF TURKEY.” Once we got inside, we found out they were out of ham too.

My Thanksgiving dinner consisted of meatloaf, chinese chicken and mashed potatoes. I enjoyed it just the same.

Now that Thanksgiving dinner is over and the “Holidays” have officially begun… it’s time to reflect on the past year.

It’s been pretty much the same as the year before.. only I quit smoking, put on some weight and oh yea… GOT OLD!

That’s okay… time has been pretty good to me so while I’m still feeling half way grateful… I want to wish everyone the best holiday season ever!!!!

Here I am… officially forty years old.

I’ll admit, it’s not as bad as I thought. I certainly don’t feel any differently and I don’t think I look any differently either, but who knows. There are some out there who will say I’ve looked forty for years… LOL.

My friends threw me a surprise party Saturday night. It was one of the best times I’ve ever had.

I will admit… I kind of knew something was up when Ed Walsh called and told me to come over to his place because his friend’s friend had to cook a bunch of meat “THAT NIGHT.”

My first thought was to stay as far away from there as possible. Who honestly accepts an invitation to: “Hey, c’mon over and help us eat a bunch of rancid meat.”

Needless to say, there was no spoiled beef, chicken or pork… just a great time with great friends.

If this is what it means to be forty… I have no idea why I was dreading it so much.

Of course, things could change by the time the big “FOUR-ONE” rolls around.

We’ll have to wait and see!
