Houston… We Have No Problem

Just when you thought it was safe to go into the closet.. LOL!
Voters in Houston, TX have spoken and they’ve let it be known they don’t care who their new Mayor sleeps with… just as long as she doesn’t sleep on the job.
Houston is the first major city to elect an openly gay Mayor.
Kind of ironic considering the election falls on the heels of the controversial remarks made by Shreveport city councilman Ron Webb regarding the Robinson Film Center.
In a video-recorded budget meeting, Webb told fellow council members he didn’t want to give the non-profit center 25-thousand dollars because it bothers him they support gay and lesbian rights.
I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t aware gays and lesbians didn’t have rights.. except the right to get married.
Rumor has it… Ron Webb isn’t out of the water yet. His remarks have apparently pissed off the film industry… and we all know how important that industry is to the city.
What do you think?
i think its going to take the film industry to make him accountable for his actions. God knows no one else in this city’s government will.
Yes, I agree with justrob I think it is far to late for an apology from Webb and I think the City should call for him to resign. The film industry is far to important to the economy of this area for one homophobic idiot to cause us to lose the film industry. I think Mayor Glover should ask him to resign for the good of the community and our economy.
I probably will get hammered for this but here goes. Somewhere in all the rights, I have lost my right to disagree with certain things, issues, etc. I do teach my children that this choice of living is wrong, but I do not categorize it being any different from anything else that is wrong. I also teach them to treat everyone with respect like Jesus did, but that it is okay to disagree with people based on your beliefs. I have a gay person in my family, but I do not call them out, point fingers, but I do disagree when the topic is brought up. I would not vote for an openly gay mayor, but I could still have lunch with one if that makes sense.
It makes a lot of sense, Dtrain. The fact you can disagree without being rude and nasty shows you care enough not to intentionally hurt anyone.
I agree with Redford but the fact is the gay bashers and haters they do not take the same tact as Dtrain. The want to wipe the Gay and Lesbian community off the map. We are all GOD”S children not matter if you are gay, straight, Lesbian, transgender black or blue. Gay and Lesbians should have the same rights as the “so called ” straight people do. to live in peace and be able to go one with there live as the “so called” straight people do. Gay and Lesbians only want the same rights that everyone else is given and to live their life the way everyone is does . The Gay and Lesbian community has far to long been the outcast party and be forced to live in fear and comdemnation by the rest of society . It is time this changed and we are not forced to live in the shadows and always looking over our sholders for gay bashers who want to hurt the community beacuse we do not conform to society. Get a grip we are hear to stay and to demmand the same rights and everyone else…..
